WEDM Classification Perspective in China Explained

In China's wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) industry, machine tools are conventionally categorized as high-speed, medium-speed (Kingred WEDM as examples), or low-speed based on cutting rates. This often causes confusion among international clients.
Before diving into design details, configurations, machining capabilities, etc., you might have been frustrated by the pricing difference between them. Let's read on to get going.
Submerged operation, brass wire, and guide wheels at the machine head - These features ovbiously indicate a distinct category of WEDM machinery, which is what we call low-speed wire EDM in China.
What's really confusing is the difference between high-speed and medium-speed WEDM machines. A medium-speed machine costs the same as 2 to 7 high-speed machines. From this perspective, with this huge price advantage, high-speed EDM machines can maintain strong market preference while adapting to market demands, for example, by integrating multi-pass cutting control and more automatic devices into the system. That's why it becomes more confusing these days.
There are some hacks to avoid being confused by WEDM equipment made in China. One hack is to focus on technical specifications and pricing, mainly the following aspects:
a. accuracy & surface finish
b. efficiency (machining speed/rate)
c. applications
d. tech upgrades
e. cost-effectiveness
