Author:KingredThe Kingred molybdenum wire drive system used in flagship wire EDM machines includes several distinctive design features that improve wire stability, control, and maintenance convenience.
First, the machine uses a side positioned wire storage drum instead of the traditional drum located at the rear of the machine. This layout shortens the overall wire path and improves accessibility for operators during wire installation, inspection, and maintenance.
Second, the system includes a dedicated wire tension screw as part of a mechanical tensioning mechanism. This allows operators to precisely adjust and maintain stable wire tension during cutting.
Third, the upper wire arm is supported by dual linear guide rails arranged in parallel. This structure allows the upper assembly to move smoothly while maintaining alignment, especially during taper cutting, which helps keep the wire path stable throughout the machining process.
Another feature is the well distributed guide wheels positioned along the wire path. These guide wheels help maintain accurate wire guidance and reduce vibration across the full travel range.
As widely known, Chinese molybdenum wire EDM machines use reusable molybdenum wire with bidirectional movement, while brass wire EDM machines typically use single direction wire movement with continuously consumed wire. Because the wire is reused, it is important that the wire drum does not travel beyond its designed range, which could otherwise cause excessive tension and cause the wire to break.
To address this, Kingred machines use a digitalized wire reversal system. When the wire reaches preset travel points, the control system automatically reverses the wire direction. This digital control replaces the traditional mechanical limit switches commonly used in older designs.
As a result, the system improves three key aspects of operation:
a. Correct wire direction guidance;
b. Stable wire tension control;
c. Reliable and accurate wire reversal.
Together, these features provide a more stable wire drive system and make machine operation easier and more predictable for operators.
